I agree about the collagen lips being scary, YIKES!!!!!!!! And sad too.

Also, the beauty=goodness myth is a trip enough, but who gets to decide what is beautiful. And we are so focused on physical beauty.

I too don't see anything wrong with powder or lip gloss either. Women and some men have been adorning themselves since antiquity, but the obsession to look a particular way, rather than finding what is beautiful in you is haunting, and sad for sure.

You sent me running to dictionary.com to look up "pulchritude." LOL.. it sounds rather disgusting, not at all like it's meaning.

Yeesh, the collagen lips thing is just so scary-looking! In my work, I attend events for people in the beauty business. Some of these women really embrace that LA-look, and it's just freaky looking. It's so sad to me. I'm all in favor of a little powder & paint, if you *want.* Girly stuff is fun. But the porn-star/mannequine look is disturbing. It smacks of mental illness.

Somewhere this week I read this (forget who said it) but it's made me think:

"One of the greatest myths in our culture is that Beauty=Goodness."

Yes. That's so deeply ingrained, that I never really noticed it. Huge myth.
